Root + Rise Math
Building mathematical thinkers, not just test takers
Intentional, 1:1 conceptual K-8 math instruction and curriculum design tailored to your child's unique learning profile. Led by a master educator proudly serving families in the local Leander area and across Texas virtually, and certified as an approved provider for Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA).
Core Philosophy
At Root + Rise Math, I do not teach math through passive listening, rote memorization, or repetitive drills. Real mathematical fluency is built when students actively wrestle with ideas, discover patterns, and construct their own understanding. My instructional philosophy is completely inquiry-based and student-led. Instead of handing students a formula to memorize, I guide them through strategic investigations that reveal the structural beauty of numbers. This flexible approach is naturally attuned to a wide spectrum of learning profiles. It allows me to design deep, engaging extensions for gifted thinkers who crave a challenge, while simultaneously providing supportive, neurodiversity-affirming pathways for students navigating ADHD, dyscalculia, or executive dysfunction.By focusing on conceptual change rather than just getting the right answer, I help students develop a flexible, resilient mathematical mindset that serves them far beyond the classroom.
Inquiry-Based Discovery:
Students learn best when they construct their own understanding. Instead of delivering lectures, I facilitate deep investigations through targeted questioning. By inviting students to explore the why before the how, I ensure that concepts take root permanently.
Dialogue & Defense:
Mathematical proficiency is as much about communication as it is about calculation. In my sessions, we talk about math constantly. Students are prompted to explain their reasoning, analyze different pathways, and defend their unique solutions. This active verbalization solidifies their conceptual grasp and builds genuine confidence.
Intentional Reflection:
We reserve space in every session to reflect on our own mathematical thinking. By analyzing mistakes as valuable data points and celebrating elegant problem-solving strategies, students develop a true growth mindset and the metacognitive awareness required to become self-sufficient learners.
Grounded in Proven Frameworks
My methodology is intentionally informed by evidence-based, conceptually rich math frameworks. Rather than relying on a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach, I pull from leading instructional resources to design a learning trajectory unique to your child. Our work together is shaped by:
Illustrative Mathematics: Utilizing a problem-based curriculum that emphasizes engaging with rich tasks, deep mathematical reasoning, and making connections between different representations.
Math Learning Center Resources & Visual Apps: Incorporating virtual manipulatives, visual frames, and hands-on tools to help students build concrete connections to abstract mathematical contexts.
Research-Based Fact Fluency Games: Moving away from stressful timed drills by utilizing targeted games and assessment tools designed to build genuine strategy and long-term retention of basic math facts.
TEKS & Common Core (CCSS) Realignment: Explicitly mapping investigations to either the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or Common Core State Standards, depending on where your student plans to continue their educational journey.
Expertise that Drives Results (About Me)
I am a professional math educator and instructional specialist dedicated to helping students build deep, flexible mathematical foundations. My practice, Root + Rise Math, is built on the belief that every child can thrive when complex concepts are made accessible through active inquiry, strategic dialogue, and student-led discovery.
With over 13 years of classroom teaching and school leadership experience as well as 2 years running my private practice, I specialize in tailoring instruction to meet the unique cognitive profiles of elementary and middle school learners. Whether a student is navigating profound foundational gaps or seeking advanced conceptual enrichment, I design individualized learning paths that transform their relationship with numbers.Professional Credentials & Certifications
Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Elementary Education | Texas State University
Texas Certified Master Math Teacher | Grades EC–4
Certified Dyscalculia Specialist | EduCalc Learning K–5 Specialist Program
Standard Texas Teaching Certifications | Mathematics (4–8) and Mathematics (8–12)
Before establishing my private practice, I served as an Elementary Math Curriculum Specialist and classroom teacher, where I mentored educators and designed district-level instructional frameworks. Today, I channel that systemic expertise into highly focused, one-on-one partnerships with local and homeschool families, helping students grow from foundational security to high-level mathematical thinking.

Formats, Locations, & General Policies
Session Formats & Locations
Home Studio & Virtual Learning: Standard monthly tuition applies to all sessions held at my Leander studio or online via Google Meet.
In-Home Instruction: Available on a limited basis for families within a 10-minute radius. Locations outside this zone are subject to a travel and commute-time premium, or sessions may be completed virtually.
Terms & General Policies
Automated Tuition Billing: To maintain your student's dedicated weekly time slot, tuition is billed as a flat monthly enrollment fee and is processed via automatic credit card or ACH payment on the 1st of each month prior to services being rendered.
Attendance, Absence, & Emergency Policy: Enrollment secures a fixed, recurring hour in my weekly calendar explicitly reserved for your child. Because this time slot is locked into the master schedule, there are no tuition refunds or roll-over credits for missed sessions. However, to accommodate the realities of family life, up to two (2) emergency or illness absences per school year may be rescheduled as dedicated make-up sessions, provided they are coordinated within the current term. Beyond these two built-in buffers, any additional missed sessions will be forfeited. Families on the 12-Month continuous track will still receive their flexible summer scheduling calendar in April.
Marketplace Funding Buffer (For TEFA / Odyssey Families): For clients utilizing state education funds, please note that families are ultimately responsible for ensuring monthly tuition balances are cleared. In the event of an administrative delay or technical glitch on the state marketplace platform, a backup payment method must be utilized to preserve your student's active enrollment slot.
Disability Funding & Specialized State Grants: If your family qualifies for specialized Texas state funding for students with disabilities (such as the SSES program), please note that the state requires an active, qualifying student enrollment to initiate vendor approval for those specific accounts. I am fully qualified, certified, and eager to partner with your family to complete the necessary provider application the moment your student's enrollment slot is secured. Standard billing policies apply while state processing is underway.
